Help! My Hair is on Strike and Won’t Grow

Why won't my natural hair grow?

You may have asked or heard someone ask “Why won’t my hair grow?”. There are various possible answers to this inquiry. Unless hair has become entirely destroyed by the use of chemicals or there is a health-based cause, our locks should be growing consistently. Whether it is growing gradually, quickly, or in insane directions-it really should be growing for the most part! Most hair should grow on average a quarter of an inch each month. If your hair appears to be growing at a lower pace than this, below are a few reasons why that might be the case, as well as some suggestions to help.

4 Reasons Your Hair is Having Trouble Growing

1. Build Up- Oil along with other heavy products can cause your scalp to be clogged which prohibits hair from growing to it’s full potential. Your scalp needs to breath in order for it to grow at a reasonable rate. Only apply light products to nourish your scalp and hair. Natural essential oils are good, but steer clear from pore clogging products such as wax, jam, and grease.  If it is necessary to style your natural black hair using heavy items, make sure you clean your scalp thoroughly using an astringent.

2. Split Ends- The cause of split ends may be from insufficient moisture, high temperature styling tools, chemical substances, or just plain neglect. It’s actually vital that you cut chemical treated hair on average between every 6-8 weeks, and natural hair on average between every 3-5 months. Also be sure to moisturize your ends to prevent them from splitting. When your hair begins to split on the ends, it continues to split  up the shaft, leading to breakage and developing finer strands. Unfortunately, this results to your hair appearing thinner and shorter. Sporting weave and extensions may also trigger split ends, so you should considering having your ends trimmed every time you remove the extensions.

3. Breakage- If you ask me, this can be the biggest reason your hair may appear never to grow. Frequently we overlook moisturizing the ends of our hair, therefore they end up becoming dry and breaking off. It’s important to remember, naturally curly hair especially 4b hair type  and 4c hair type  has trouble allowing oil to reach the ends because of the challenging turns and zig-zags. Therefore, you must help it out! It’s just as essential to apply oil to the ends of your hair as it is to your scalp.

4. Eating Habits/Medication- Anything that enters into our body ends up being release one way or another, this includes our lovely locks. Be sure to uphold a wholesome  diet plan filled with fruits and vegetables and consume lots of water (8-10 glasses daily). If you are taking prescription medication, consult with your nutritional expert about using vitamins. Biotin and Vitamin E tends to be great supplements to assist with hair growth!
