Finding a good stylist to do your hair is essential to natural black hair care. You must locate an individual who knows her stuff when it comes to natural hair care. Otherwise, you might be stuck with being better off wearing a relaxer or extensions. Here are a few guidelines I put together to help you choose a good stylist
A good hair stylist does their research and due diligence when it comes to knowing their “stuff” in their area of expertise. Make sure you choose a stylist who is familiar with your hair type. You also want to make sure they study your hair well, and know exactly when your hair is lacking something. Are you in need of a deep conditioning? Are your ends breaking and it’s time for a trim?
For anyone much like myself, your time is extremely valuable. Therefore, it is essential to me that I have a stylist who is aware of the importance of my time. I do not wish to spend all day in a salon when I made my appointment a week in advance. I believe the acceptable waiting time should be no longer than 20-30 minutes. Anything after this time, say’s I do not value your time, which is a problem.
The general ambiance of the salon is important. I’m not sure about you, but my ideal salon would serve as a relaxing retreat from every day life. I prefer to be in a clean environment where I’m not afraid to use the restroom or bombarded with local sales men.
Recommendations are great when it comes to finding the right stylist. You are able to ask questions before hand, which may allow you to make a quicker decision on deciding whether or not a stylist would work for you. If you notice somebody’s hair you’re absolutely in love with, make sure you get their stylist information and start your screening!
I’m sure you heard the people who care the most about you, will not be afraid to tell you the truth event though it may hurt your feelings. Well, the same goes true with a stylist. It is important to chose a stylist who i’snt afraid to tell you “no” when they know what is best for your hair. If you have a stylist that will do anything you ask them, without questioning or educating you, you might want to second guess the relationship you have with them. Are they truly looking out for your best interest, or simply their to just “please” you.
