You can rock an awesome puff and you’re hair doesn’t even need to be that long. If your hair is between 1 to 3 inches or longer stretched, you shouldn’t have a problem. I know we’ve all seen beautiful puffs from women with hair 10 inches or longer, and that’s great. But if your hair hasn’t reached that length yet, or if you’re not even interested in growing your hair, don’t fret. You can definitely pull off a great puff. Sometimes, it can be the easiest thing in the world to do and sometimes, your puff makes it look like you’re having a majorly bad hair day. Here are my 4 tips on how to hack your puff so you get it right each time.
1) Prepare your hair. Do this by cleansing it, keeping it damp and applying a generous amount of your favorite creamy moisturizer. Some good choices for your natural hair are Pura Body Naturals Cupuacu Hair Butter, Organic Roots Stimulator Curls Unleashed Defining Creme, Qhemet Biologics Amla & Olive Heavy Cream or just some whipped shea butter with your favorite oils added.
2) Have the right technique. After your hair is prepped and ready to go, use a soft bristled brush or a wide tooth comb to direct your hair upward, toward the top of your head. Use a headband to hold your puff in place by putting it around your head. You can use small, contoured combs are placeholders, too.
3) Use the proper tools. The secret to the perfect puff on short hair is to not try to put your hair in a ponytail but to use a wide headband to keep it in a puff. You can use a pomade or a gel to hold the outer hair in place. Just keep sliding the headband around until your puff looks exactly how you want it to. You can pull it straight back or over to the side for a side puff. Use a comb or your fingers to fluff the puff.
4) Keep it going. To maintain your puff at night, first spritz your hair with water from a spray bottle. Add a little of your creamy moisturizer to the bottle, if you like. Add cream to your hair for curl definition. Pay close attention to your ends. Use some small clips and bobby pins and part your hair into six or so parts to assist in keeping your hair stretched. The exact amount of sections and clips you use will depend on the length of your hair. Cover your hair with a satin bonnet and have a nice night! Pick your puff out in the morning, put your headband back on, and you’re ready to go.
Don’t be intimidated by the puff, even if you have very short hair. Women with virtually any length of hair can look amazing with this do. You just need to know how to hack your puff. Hopefully these simple tips will help you to keep looking fabulous.
