Africa decided enough was enough and it was time to go natural! Her Hubby was her proud supporter. Read more on her story below..
How Did You Get To Where You are Today?
I was tired of the chemical. I hated sitting under the dryer the whole day only to walk out of the salon into rain. I hated not being able to go to the beach when my husband wanted to. At first I had my hair locked. My hair however is straight in some parts and very tight in others. The locks unfortunately got too heavy for the straight parts and especially around the back began to fall off. I had started to dislike how ruff the locks felt anyway. My hair was always very soft. I took a thumb tack and after about a month (and sore thumbs) I had picked out my locks. I got my hair trimmed an treated and then I did not know what yo do. It would not grow. After a while I began to get frustrated. “Maybe I should straighten I again” I said to my hubby but he encouraged me to keep it natural. Youtube was my saving grace. I discovered it in January of this year (2011) and through it have a learned how to treat and style my hair (I still want to learn how to cornrow. My hair has grown so much. Its is soft and I love the various styles it can go in. I LOOOOOOVE it an will never go back.
What is you current regimen?
I have tried many products and sent a lot of money over the past two years. Now I deep treat once a week and do a twist out so on weekends it will be out. During the weeks it is up because of my job, Jamaica is hot and because I have started jogging in the mornings. I spray with a mixture of water and olive oil after i have jog and put it in a loose bun or ponytail. Also on the days that I dont jog, three or four large chiney bumps (bantu knots) the night before helps to keep it stretched and wavy on that day.
What is your signature natural hairstyle?
Twist outs on weekends and a loose bun or ponytail during the week because of the job, the heat and jogging.
What is the best tip you have learned throughout your hair journey?
I use mostly natural products, staying away from mineral oil, sulfate, petroleum and silicone’s. I have tried so many products and always go back to the natural ones.

What are your favorite product(s)? and Why?
My homemade shea butter mixture (got the recipe from Naptural85 on YouTube). Love it because I can make it myself so I know its natural, a little goes a long way, my hair has grown a lot since I have been using it and it makes my hair soft and easy o comb out. I also use it as a lotion.
