I’m not going to lie. I’ve been puzzled by Alicia Keys’ #nomakeup campaign for some time, particularly who exactly it’s targeted at. Black women are known for having great skin that ages significantly slower than women of other races. Additionally many high profile black women are regularly seen without makeup. We’ve seen Beyonce, Tyra Banks, Kelly Rowland, Gabrielle Union, Nia Long, Serena Williams and countless others run around town or post images to social media with bare faces. Earlier this year Lupita Nyong’o and Viola Davis went bare-faced for a Vanity Fair photo shoot. It’s just not a huge deal.
