If you’ve just recently started on your natural hair journey, this may sound like a rude awakening to you. I don’t mean for it to, but there are several reasons why your natural hair may not work out the way you plan.
1. You have too many hair idols.
Remember that your hair is unique. It will never look exactly like the women you follow on YouTube. It’s not a bad thing to get inspiration from hair crushes, but to dream that you will one day look just like them is a setup for failure down the line.
2. You set unrealistic goals.
Even if you don’t have hair crushes, it’s a good idea to keep your dreams within the realm of reality. Of course, it’s possible to grow natural kinky hair long, but it takes time and effort for many of us. And your hair texture probably isn’t going to change. If your goal is to look completely different than you do now, you may want to rethink your goals.
3. Chemicals have permanently changed your hair structure.
Relaxers and hair dyes may have taken your hair to a place that it can’t come back from. You may actually never see your “true” texture or color again if you have used enough chemicals in your hair. Relaxers can not only cause pain and burning they are applied, but they can cause hair damage, scalp damage, lack of hair growth and permanent texture change. Hair dyes have the ability to change the texture of your hair, as well.
4. You’re not taking proper care of your hair.
This is the most important tip of all! I can assure you that you will not wake up one day looking like your biggest hair crush because of your colossal decision to go natural. Going natural is a wonderful journey but, as with most journeys, it is one that takes planing and care. Have fun on your journey!
