I have been on a quest to finally clear up my skin over the past few months. After doing a ton of research, I have learned lots and can now see considerable improvement when I look into the mirror. Here is an effective skin care regimen for black women.
The first fact I learned was that we black women don’t need any special skin products. The color of your skin doesn’t matter when it comes to caring for it, in the same way that we all need nutritious foods no matter what our ancestry. What does matter is your skin type.
If you’ve been using night cream, save your cash. When you’re asleep, your skin, like the rest of your organs, is detoxing impurities, balancing its oil production and regenerating itself. Night creams throw off these important processes, leading to dry skin, dependent upon moisturizers. All your skin needs before bedtime is a gentle cleanser and an alcohol-free toner.
Like cures like. It probably seems strange to cleanse oily skin with oil, but it works. Your skin doesn’t produce oil when it doesn’t need to. Drying, harsh soaps leave skin producing too much oil. Oil cleansing is simple. Use a heavier oil if you have oily skin and a lighter one if your skin is dry. Massage your face with the oil and wet a washcloth with the hottest water you can stand. Place the cloth on your face, allowing your pores to open and the oil to enter, the wipe the oil away. You skin will be left supple and soft.
Over exfoliation is another no-no. You need an extremely gentle exfoliant so you don’t damage your skin.
When you begin your skin care regimen- don’t forget the most important factor of all, which is lifestyle and diet. Eat a clean diet with fresh, unprocessed foods and get outside and move. Your skin will thank you!
