Some ladies like to make certain their curls are not out-of-line before applying their lovely friend Moisturizer. This method is great for those who’ve realized their hair initial response to moisture is to act out by poofing up. If this sounds like you, you are not alone! Manage your locks with gel or other styling products before applying a moisturizer and locking it in with a sealant or essential oil.
If you apply a moisturizer to your hair prior to applying a styling product, there is a good chance your hair will be extremely dry. Therefore you must use a really good moisturizing product as a primer. Before styling my hair I like to use Carols Daughter Tui leave-in-conditioner to protect my hair from harmful environmental elements. It doesn’t matter if I’m leaving my house or not, I will not style my hair without some type of moisturizing product.
I also do not attempt to detangle my hair if there is no leave-in conditioner. After the leave-in-conditioner is applied, I style my hair with a moisturizing gel –my favorite at the moment is Olive Oil Eco-Styler. Sometimes I like to add an oil base seal to my ends to add further protection from weather conditions or any other activities I enjoy throughout my day. If you have type 4c hair, it is very important you apply a moisturizer to your hair at least twice a day. 4c hair tends to become easier dry than other hair types; consider applying a leave-in-conditioner in the morning and at night.
To speed up the styling process you could blend a sealer and moisturizing lotion. Add hair butter or essential oils to the moisturizer to help seal your hair. Also consider using a leave-in-conditioner. Most leave-in-conditioners have a sealer component. You can also blend some form of sealer into a moisturizing hair product. Ouidad, who’s normally on the cutting edge of naturally curly hair care products, also has created Moisture Lock, a curly hair lotion made to assist with defining curls, instilling them with moisture, and become a styling gel all-in-one solution!
